Sunderland trainer Steve Bruce targets Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson

Sunderland have lined up a 3.5million deal for Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson if the Premier League changes their mind and allows the cash-strapped club to sell outside the transfer window.

Pompey, who are reportedly 60million in debt and facing a winding-uppetition from HM Revenue and Customs in the High Court early nextmonth, had sought permission to deal in a bid to stay afloatfinancially.

But the deal is unlikely to go ahead after the Premier Leaguerevealed on Saturday that they would not allow the south-coaststrugglers to sell any of their players outside of the transfer window.

As Sportsmail revealed lastmonth the Premier League clubs want Portsmouth to go intoadministration before allowing them financial help to survive.
